Zoho Books now enables direct VAT filing with EmaraTax

Stylized VAT returns have a label with a check mark reading VAT filed against a blue background

We’re excited to announce that Zoho Books is now recognised as a Digital Tax Integrator by the Federal Tax Authority, enabling direct VAT return filing from within your favorite accounting software. This means no more exporting reports, switching between platforms, or dealing with submission errors.

VAT in the UAE

The UAE Federal Tax Authority charges a standard 5% VAT on most goods and services, with some taxed at 0% or exempt. Businesses in the UAE must register for VAT if their taxable sales and imports exceed AED 375,000 in the past 12 months or the next 30 days. Every VAT-registered taxpayer in the UAE is required to generate a VAT returns report for every tax period and file it with the FTA EmaraTax portal. This tax period could be either monthly or quarterly, depending on what’s assigned by the FTA. The last day to file the VAT return is the 28th day of the month following the end of the tax period.

The usual process of filing returns involves generating a VAT report, verifying the taxable figures, signing in to the EmaraTax portal, and manually entering data into every applicable field. But starting today, Zoho Books has transformed this process for all taxpayers, simplifying it significantly.

The new normal

This is the future of accounting, with Zoho Books easing the stress of yet another tedious and sensitive financial operation. All you have to do is connect your Zoho Books organization with the EmaraTax portal, generate return reports, verify them, and securely push them to the EmaraTax portal.

Here’s what the update enables you to do:

Connect your Zoho Books organization with EmaraTax

Integrate your business organization with EmaraTax and establish a connection with the portal anytime, directly from within the application. This minimizes the need to switch tabs and tools.

Generate, lock, and push VAT201

Let Zoho Books create VAT return reports for your desired tax period as prescribed by the FTA. Lock the draft reports after verifying the details provided, such as the taxable amount and tax amounts on standard rated supplies with a drill down by different Emirates. Then, push them directly to the EmaraTax portal. You will also be able to generate and submit voluntary disclosures under special cases, for example, to rectify improper reporting of standard-rated, zero-rated, and exempted supplies.

Fetch VAT return statuses

Pull VAT returns from the EmaraTax portal into Zoho Books, regardless of where they were originally filed. This helps you differentiate what’s generated versus what’s filed, allowing you to identify mismatches and make adjustments by creating transactions to balance the books.

Track VAT payments and dues

Record and track VAT payments, dues, and penalties in Zoho Books, allowing you and your accountant to maintain financial compliance with full visibility into your VAT obligations.

Whether you’re dealing with VAT filing in the UAE, planning your corporate tax filings, or simply need a unified view of your UAE tax landscape, Zoho Books is built to support your business every step of the way. Ready to get started? Sign up now and experience a smarter way to stay compliant.
